Support the cause!

Those of you who know me quite well know that my biggest passion in RL (Real Life) is that of staunchly defending the rights of women and girls to be treated as equal human beings as their male counterparts - In all areas of society in which we participate.

You'll see a little hint to the slant Venus Beach II takes on this issue at the Landing Point, and No, it's not the "Run over boys" pic!

As the founder and co-owner of Venus Beach II, I have carried on the tradition of the Venus Beach brand to provide a place a place for women to come and be women,  away from all gender stereotypes, and from possible abuse from men gamers. Indeed Female gamers often have to endure daily abuse in cyberspace.  This makes the continued existence of our community even more important in our digital age.

Here in  Australia, and I hear in the UK, awareness of issues surrounding basic rights, respect and equality for women has very much moved into the social media realm.

I have listed below some GREAT links to pages I support, to which I passionately encourage you to support too, and show your on board with perhaps the most important issues which directly affect us all as women.

VBII Events: “It’s Not That Easy Being Green

Or so Kermit the Frog would have us believe (at first) in his famous song (this is the first version of it from 1969). And, yes, that’s Kermit “chatting” with Jim Henson in the wonderful statuary homage to the late Muppets creator on the University of Maryland campus in College Park.

But, it is very easy for you to be green this Sunday. Everyone and her sister is selling or giving away green outfits this weekend for St. Patrick’s Day, the theme of our weekly 4:00 pm SLT Sunday event. This week there’s 500L on the board for “Best in Green.” So, no excuses— “I can’t find a thing to wear” – join us Sunday for some fun, music, dancing, chat…and, of course, giggles. We’ll be in an Irish Pub, so things will no doubt be more festive than our session in Madam Lash’s House of Pleasure and Pain (I still cringe when I hear the crack of a whip).

There’s even the occasional semi-serious discussion that arises from some piece of news or trivia. And that’s when we narrowly-focused Americans have to explain silly stuff like…”Spartans” refers to Michigan State University’s athletic teams not ancient history or movies about it…and, yes, unlike most of the inhabited world, there are places in our home states (like Michigan and California) where they get as much as 30 feetof snow a year.  For the most part we successfully struggle through the different cultures and even languages…American, English, and Strine without translators…and a few others with those handy devices that convert the languages in which most of us are not fluent. And, if we get tooserious, someone will inevitably say the secret word, triggering an involuntary reaction in those wearing the “surprise” and causing us to giggle like a bunch of schoolgirls. Don’t know the secret word? Oh my, where have you been!?!?

Join us any of the eight* times a week we get together and you’ll likely find out.

*Soon to be nine when various continents complete their changes to daylight savings time.

Venus Beach II - What Happens At Our Events?

Events: Unleash Your Inner Kink Sunday at 4

For all the beauty of the recently renovated Venus Beach II sims, and all the opportunities for me to crash recreational vehicles, as we pass the annual observance of International Women’s Day (Friday, March 8), one is reminded that the 10 or so weekly events are what brings us together and develops the “sisterhood” of our group.

No, I don’t mean we get together like some coven plotting to take over the world. (Though I suppose, if guys want to think that, it wouldn’t be too awful to keep them on their best behavior.) But we do provide a relaxed atmosphere in which one can escape the rigors of First Life and the frequent pressures of Second Life. For 90+ minutes we can dance and chat and listen to the terrific music provided by Avion, Bea and Surfer. We laugh and joke a lot, and also talk about such diverse topics as tanks (no, not tank tops, military tanks), tigers, TimTams, Trader Joe’s, and tiny tops. And tatas--not like a bunch of pubescent boys wondering about them—we’re quite aware of what they are—we have them! The new mesh breasts seen everywhere in SL prompted us to invite Emily and Zoey to show us their new boobs and explain a bit about the offerings from Lush and Lola Tangos. We occasionally have semi-serious discussions about history or trivia. But mostly we giggle and enjoy a respite from getting hit on in the rest of SL.

Most of our events are “come as you are” and VBII is clothing optional, so attire (if any) is entirely at your discretion. Four other events have some optional guidelines: Topless Tiki Toosday suggest topless swimwear, and Saturday’s dance in the pool suggests not wearing more than swimwear (less is okay). On Thursdays Surfer picks a theme for a contest and on Sundays there’s the weekly costume event, usually with a fabulous set created by Avion.

This Sunday at 4 pm SLT, the contest is Best in Fetishwear (500L) and it will take place in Madam Lash's House of Pleasure and Pain. Even if you are not into a fetish, you no doubt have acquired plenty of fetishwear in SL—or maybe you harbor a secret desire to pursue a fetish, in which case here’s a safe place to try out your “look.” And I’m curious: how did you label the fetishwear folder in your inventory? Fetish. Kink. BDSM. The Dark Side. (That last one is mine, not really sure why.)

See you around campus,

Another Post from Bev...

Hi again,

Meet my new friend.   He doesn’t have a name so that’s something you can help me with.  If you have suggestions you can submit them to me here, by replying to the blog or you can find me in-world and let me know there.  I’ll post responses on here so we can vote.  The winning submission should get some sort of prize.  I mean money, you pervs!  Oh, and there is a second contest.  This little guy is hiding somewhere in Venus Gardens.  He’s not well hidden, mind you. So get out there and explore.  If you find him, send me a snapshot and you will be rewarded.  Each time he is found he’ll find a new place to hide so keep wandering.

Hugs,
Beverly (aka; iBev, Beav/2)

A little look at the Eastern Beach....

Today we welcome our awesome guest blogger, Bev, who has written up a little bit about our Eastern Beach, just past the dancefloor....

If you take a walk just down the beach a little from the dance floor and landing area you’ll come to a quaint row of storefronts.  As you see from the picture, this is a nice area for a stroll, whether solo or with that special someone. Then take a seat and relax with the ocean view.  If you’re in the mood for some shopping, our good friend Lyric has some of the clothing she has created in the store on the left.  Lyric is a longtime friend and VB member also the owner of our sister club, Atlantis.  The other stores are vacant at the moment.  So if you or a friend are interested in renting the space and to gain a little exposure then don’t hesitate to contact Laura and Avion. *Whispers* then once you open up shop, talk to me and we’ll get a plug on the blog and some word of mouth advertising.
