Australia Day

January 26th is the official national day of Australia, marking the anniversary of European settlement in 1788. This week on Sunday at 4 pm SLT DJ Avion will be spinning a selection of tunes by Australian artists, in an outback bushland setting.

An embarrassing omission from last week's blog  .... on January 7th we were delighted to add #4 to the list of lovely wedding parties at VB II when Cheryl and Nevada held their reception in a beautiful marquee erected over the regular dance floor. Congratulations to the happy couple!

Last week on Sunday evening DJ Bea rocked us out in the VB Milk Bar featuring songs that topped the R&B charts in 1952 and 1953. Poodle skirts, pedal pushers and leathers were in abundance, and a surprise visit from "Sandy".

For this week's Celtic Sunrise at 5 am SLT Sunday, we re-visit the Big Bed at Venus Bean where DJ Qntal  will play "Love Songs and Lingerie" for the last Sunday of the month. Last week DJ Shelly presented music from the atomic age, the 1950s to 1970s, in the new nuclear reactor, though the interior is more representative of a steampunk power station.

DJ Bea plays an eclectic set of rock, blues and jazz on Monday mornings at 9 am SLT. This Monday Bea will play for Martin Luther King Day "some freedom songs and a bunch of Motown".

DJ JoAnn continues her journey into the best decades of contemporary music with 80s Night at 5 pm SLT Monday. Always lots of favorites, as well as music rarely or never heard before.

DJ Avion spins tunes old and new, by artists legendary and obscure, when we gather for Tiki Toosday at 5 pm SLT. We currently alternate between the VB Pool and Surf's Up which will be the location of next Tuesday's event.

DJ JoAnn presents Symphonic and Goth metal on Wednesdays at 5 pm SLT  in her latex and leather dungeon. Great music in a perfect setting for an oft-overlooked but compelling genre of music.

On Fridays at 5 pm SLT, DJ JoAnn plays a musical theme that often takes place in one of the special venues. This week JoAnn will entertain us with the second instalment of "Around the World", with music featuring cities from all over the globe. Last week we visited the Venus Beach II Pony Club for the first event in that new(ish) location where JoAnn played music relating to horses and all things equine.
