Or so Kermit the Frog would have us believe (at first) in his famous song (this is the first version of it from 1969). And, yes, that’s Kermit “chatting” with Jim Henson in the wonderful statuary homage to the late Muppets creator on the University of Maryland campus in College Park.
But, it is very easy for you to be green this Sunday. Everyone and her sister is selling or giving away green outfits this weekend for St. Patrick’s Day, the theme of our weekly 4:00 pm SLT Sunday event. This week there’s 500L on the board for “Best in Green.” So, no excuses— “I can’t find a thing to wear” – join us Sunday for some fun, music, dancing, chat…and, of course, giggles. We’ll be in an Irish Pub, so things will no doubt be more festive than our session in Madam Lash’s House of Pleasure and Pain (I still cringe when I hear the crack of a whip).
There’s even the occasional semi-serious discussion that arises from some piece of news or trivia. And that’s when we narrowly-focused Americans have to explain silly stuff like…”Spartans” refers to Michigan State University’s athletic teams not ancient history or movies about it…and, yes, unlike most of the inhabited world, there are places in our home states (like Michigan and California) where they get as much as 30 feetof snow a year. For the most part we successfully struggle through the different cultures and even languages…American, English, and Strine without translators…and a few others with those handy devices that convert the languages in which most of us are not fluent. And, if we get tooserious, someone will inevitably say the secret word, triggering an involuntary reaction in those wearing the “surprise” and causing us to giggle like a bunch of schoolgirls. Don’t know the secret word? Oh my, where have you been!?!?
Join us any of the eight* times a week we get together and you’ll likely find out.
*Soon to be nine when various continents complete their changes to daylight savings time.
